Seeking a place where time can be the least in consideration, I stumbled upon a coffee shop called Aperture Coffee in Tanjung Duren, West Jakarta. In the beginning, photos from customers in Instagram piqued my interest to see how much of impact the place has. According to the GPS, I should have reached the place and indeed, I saw the name of the coffee shop on a building. The entrance however was nowhere in sight. Approaching closer to the kopi tiam on ground floor, I saw a sign that showed me the way to Aperture Coffee.
Pushing the door open, a calming scent of coffee beans welcomed me. The smell was not too strong but not faint as well. The fragrance already made an impact on me, urging me to proceed through the narrow hallway. ‘When Photography meets Coffee’ was written on the wall in the hallway, making my curiosity tingled. At the end of the hallway, there was stairs leading upwards to the second floor where a cashier stood behind a counter. There were several men sitting at a table. It was not crowded. I was delighted that it was not crowded as I preferred to enjoy the atmosphere of the café on my own. Having a company was alright but not too many. I was glad to have stumbled on the café. The walls were white and they made use of the sunlight to brighten the room. There was no window but there was a transparent glass wall that revealed the street of Tanjung Duren area. Above the counter was menu. For convenience, there were menus in front of the counter for customers to see. Order was done at the cashier along with payment. The food would be delivered afterwards. Climbing the stairs to the third floor, an empty café was beyond a sliding door. The wall at the left side from the entrance, was bricks and there were frames of photos hanging on the wall. The photos were all black and white in colour. The photos were well-taken whether they were original or simply taken from google, I didn’t know. A rather modern furniture was set across the entrance. Sofas in pink rose and a white low table containing magazines decorated the dull classic atmosphere. It was just enough to brighten up the colour. There was also a flash behind the sofas. Entering, there was another sofa at the right side in red. There were two pillows on the sofa to add the comfort of customers. On the wall was a paint of a coffee cup in black and calligraphy written within the cup, ‘Coffee is always a good idea’. I believe it applies to me. With the set-up, it put a balance between the modern furniture across the room. The whole interior was just pleasing to my eyes. There was combination of red, brown, and white; my favourite colours. The atmosphere was light and the sunlight was soothing by the time I visited. They served variety of appetizers and desserts. Coffee Shop or Café did not limit to just variety of coffee. The pricing was typical café in malls. I thought ‘it is alright to reward myself’ as hunger tempted me. Fortunately, that day Aperture Coffee gave a bonus of free extra drink. To accompany the Carbonara that I ordered, I added a mocha and a hot chocolate. Despite sitting facing the sunlight, for the first time, I preferred to sunbath as I worked on my assignment leisurely. Although boredom seduced me to stray from my paper work and although the calming atmosphere tempted me to take a nap, I could still manage to concentrate on my paper. What saved me from giving up was the existence of electricity socket. My laptop was running out of battery and I was still halfway through the research paper. I appreciated the café for providing a socket and with that I could spend my whole day in that place. Could this place be my new lover?
