This was an assignment for my Popular Culture class a few semesters ago.
I thought it is interesting to share it because there is so much more to a cosplayer than what people see on the surface. I hope this small paper of mine could motivate fellow cosplayers out there or even new people who want to try cosplaying! Approximately two weeks ago, Touken Ranbu Indonesia hosted a cosplay café with of course, Touken Ranbu theme. We call it Honmaru e Youkoso
So, my exchange program had ended by January. I finished my exams and I planned for my return to Indonesia
Comifuro X recently was held on 3rd and 4th of March and for the first time, I participated both days of the event. It is a wonderful coincidence that I have every Saturday as off-day. I finished all urgent work and reserved booths for two days.
Previously, Comifuro IX in September last year was fun yet suffocating. This could be a great chance to share what I think about Comifuro X as many improvements had been done. Recently, I had a photosession with Frea Mai in Bluemoon Studio. It was a traditional chinese clothing photosession so, we both wore hanfu(汉服) called qi xiong ru qun (齐胸襦裙).
I had wanted to do it for a long time. I used to be obsessed with watching Wu Mei Niang Chuan Qi (武媚娘传奇) or also known as The Empress of China. Not only because of the story, the clothes too are all very well-designed. I first knew cosplay when I was twelve or thirteen. All the cosplayers seemed sparkling and glimmering. I wanted to be like them, however, my parents were against it because it was 'weird'
Cosplay is derived from 'costume and play'. It is an activity where people dress up just like characters from manga (Japanese comic), Japanese animation, and other variety of other fictional entertainment.
Although cosplay is still a fairly new culture to the world and there is part of society that still sees cosplay with sinister look. Cosplay is positive if you do it positively. Of course, there are negative impacts from cosplaying which does not appropriately suit morality. I feel more of the positivity than the negativity. Cosplay was the reason I found my confidence and self-esteem. Personally, I think cosplay is the same as drama or stage-play because you take on a role and you work your best for it. Except, in cosplay, you don't really have to make a skit and perform on stage. Here are the points how cosplay liberated me from my complex. Cosplay is fun! |
