It is 24th of March in Japan which marks the birthday of KENN, a voice-actor in Japan who smacked karma straight on my face five years ago. As you have probably noticed, I am an anime fan. Not only deeply interested in Japan’s culture and history, I am interested with Japanese men (especially KENN and Hijikata. No one can replace them in my heart unless my heart betrays me). When I first noticed him, I did not like his voice at all. At all. I would cringe whenever his voice entered my ears. Oddly enough, a friend of mine was crazy about him at that time and KENN also held onto numerous roles in animes that I was watching.
I thought I hated his voice and it peaked when I knew about Brothers Conflict where he took the role of Asahina Fuuto, the cheeky teenage idol little brother. His talent proved me wrong in the anime called Kyoukai no Kanata taking the protagonist role, Akihito Kanbara. Now, the story itself is already saddening. What’s worse, KENN’s acting made my tears pour endlessly. That moment, KENN’s talent smacked karma onto my face and I fell into the hell hole of fangirling under KENN’s victim camp. I fell hard and I was immediately stalking him. Ultimately, I learned that he was the ultimate husband-material. He can cook, he can sing, he can play the guitar, he can act, he can do basically everything. I also learnt the fact that he did not originally wanted to become a voice-actor. He was a musician first in a band. When he sang a small part in their song, fans took notice of his nice raspy cool kind of voice and then, he became the vocalist of the band. A senior then asked him if he wanted to try auditioning for an anime. He gave it a try and he landed on the protagonist of Yugi-oh! GX as Judai Yuki which made his career launch like a rocket. As he grew older and older, fans took notice how he was getting more handsome each year. The older he gets, the younger he looks. How do Japanese men do it? (tell me if you know). By the time I fell into the fangirl hell hole, I had to face real life crisis. I had to take a minor surgery. My dad accompanied me to Malacca for the process. Due to my dad’s snoring, I could not sleep at all post-surgery in hotel. I also had things going on at school so… I could say I was pretty wrecked inside. Since my mind was not thinking straight, I thought I should just listen to songs through my phone with earphone. The player shuffled to a short edited track of KENN in drama cd I got from Youtube. His voice worked wonders and it still does. It motivated me and made me feel better even when my back was aching (I could not move much so I had to sleep straight like a dead person). Ever since, I always gets butterflies in my belly whenever I hear his voice whether he is voice-acting in drama cd, anime or singing. HAPPY 36th BIRTHDAY KENN! GET A WIFE SOON! P.S: I still can’t get over KENN singing Meiji Tokyo Renka theme song at the live. Also, I can’t get over the fact that he and Aoi Shouta read my email in Kenka Banchou radio.
