Approximately two weeks ago, Touken Ranbu Indonesia hosted a cosplay café with of course, Touken Ranbu theme. We call it Honmaru e Youkoso It all started early in February when I suddenly suggested that TR-ID (Touken Ranbu Indonesia) hosted a cosplay café, noting that our community had great cosplayers and as a community we were growing each year with new experiences as well as the fact that I had never been to a cosplay café. It was not the first Touken Ranbu Cosplay Café, there was one Touken Ranbu Café back in 2017 and it was the one that I missed because I was not in Jakarta during the time. So I thought, instead of going to a cosplay café depending on my luck with my unlikely schedule, why not create one? That way I could alter my schedule to fit the event. What was surprising was, almost immediate after I suggested it, two of the members in the community replied saying, “why not?” and one of them being one of the founders of TR-ID agreed to it. Voila! We made the crews group chat and everybody assumed their own role in the event planning. I was the one who kept close contact with the café sponsor as I frequently went to the café as customer and that the café had experience with cosplay café as well. The café that we worked together was Kolary Café in West Jakarta just a few minutes’ walk from BINUS University Anggrek Campus. We came up with three packages guests, from now on called Saniwa, to choose including food and some services from their chosen Touken Danshi (Sword Boys). Now that I have mentioned Touken Danshi as Sword Boys, the cosplayers were all women so it means we were crossplaying as the sword boys. Although the initial plan for the characters did not work as we thought, we managed to settle with ten characters. There were Mikazuki Munechika, Tsurumaru Kuninaga, Heshikiri Hasebe, Shokudaikiri Mitsutada, Ookurikara, Kashuu Kiyomitsu, Yamato no Kami Yasusada, Nikkari Aoe, Yagen Toushirou, and Ishikirimaru. We also implemented the Sakura Stamp system where Saniwa could buy stamps in exchange for fanservice such as polaroid photo, smithing, hand kiss, a hug, or even a kabe-don! Based on the most expensive package, we also included marriage proposal so Saniwa could get a taste of getting proposed by their favorite Touken Danshi! We divided the shift into two, 12PM – 2 PM and 3 PM – 5 PM. Even though the café started at 12 PM sharp, the cosplayers, staffs and volunteers arrived at the café around 9 in the morning. We fixed our wigs, made sure our makeup was flawless, made sure our costumes were neat and of course, made sure we ate and drank before the café commenced. Throughout the event, Saniwa who came were all very cooperative. Initially at rehearsal, we were very worried that we wouldn’t be able to answer questions or react precisely like the characters we portray. We also kept our brain working constantly while serving Saniwa, anticipating scenarios and preparing ourselves to act as the character. Fortunately, the Saniwa enjoyed the interaction and we, cosers, also enjoyed the whole process. We prepared some scenarios to entertain the Saniwa. As first-timers, we were worried that the same scenario for both shifts would get boring but the coordination among cosers worked well and Saniwa from both shifts gave enthusiastic responses! Here are some of the photos!
Eventually, the event ended and we were all exhausted. However, everything was worth it. The Saniwa gave mostly positive feedbacks in our survey and the cosers were delighted to hear that their hard work paid off. Last but not least, the photographers we partnered for the promotional photoshoot as well as documentation of the event, Yuji and Kia, we are happy to work with you both and we hope we have another chance to work together again! Thank you so much to Saniwa who had visited and enjoyed the whole event! Also, personally as Yagen, I thank Saniwa who asked for proposal packages! Hopefully, we can come back with another event!
