Every writer has his own writing setup whether he has a sophisticated taste in the choice of flowing music or the feeling of a chair. Personally, I don't think my writing is extraordinary, but let me share what I do when I want to write short story, continuation of Botan -peony-, or Aki no Mikazuki (Autumn Crescent Moon). Important Tools Tools that I gather if I were to write seriously are normal cheap notebook to be ripped off, pen and pencil, sticky notes, stapler to join the ripped papers (I know, it is weird), phone (mostly a distraction but I need it), and laptop (with earphones if I work outside). Image Via - medium.com Now, I must explain the details. Why do you rip the papers off when you can just write on the notebook? Well, to tell you the truth, I have no idea why I do that. It is kind of a habit now. I write smoother when I rip the papers off (why self, why). I always get writer's block if I write on the book! (I question myself everytime.). Since we are on the weird track, let me add another weird thing. Depending on the story that I write, I can write on papers or I must type on laptop. For example, for Botan -peony-, I must do it by ripping papers, writing it with pen and edit by pencil. Once I have finished writing, I will type it on laptop and print it out to edit it with pencil. Then, I will go through editing the file on my laptop. If I am writing Aki no Mikazuki (Autumn Crescent Moon), I write the draft on ripped papers, but I do the writing and editing on laptop before printing it and do another checking. Don't you have it hard with all the papers? Yes. I do. I fumble a lot with it despite they are stapled. Sometimes I get frustrated because I exchange chapter 22 with chapter 2 and I get all confused because the order is jumbled up. I want to fight with the papers. Sometimes I get drunk (not literally) and stick the stick notes on the wrong page. Many times, I need to re-read everything from the beginning because my memory sucks and I don't remember what I write (especially the details). Several times I get confused by my own ugly writing too. Do you not have any journal book as the draftbook? Just like any other author, I am on constant temptation whenever I see pretty neat journal book on book store. However, I always end up not putting a single scratch on them. It would be such a waste of money if I kept collecting only to decorate my room (Oh, the life of a college student living alone and away from parents. Feed this poor writer, please). 2. Choice of Music Image Via - The Soul Medic My choice of music depends on the story I am writing. If I am writing Botan -peony-, I choose Wagakki Band's romantic or happy songs. If I am writing Aki no Mikazuki (Autumn Crescent Moon), I listen to Wagakki Band too, but sad ones. I mix with traditional chinese songs too. Mood setting is very fundamental for me because when I lose the mood, I can't concentrate. 3. Food and Beverages Please do not feed this creature when she is writing. 4. Favorite Writing Place My room because I don't have to dress up, I can roll on my bed and I can get as emotional as I can be while writing. Honestly? My room is my favorite because I laugh a lot at my own writing (especially when editing). 5. Favorite Writing Time Most of the time, I write in afternoon and evening. Another important point is, I write after all my assignments are accomplished (and usually it ends in midnight. Bed gravity is very strong, guys). 6. Any Writing Rituals? Image Via - Shutterstock Not particularly important for me but sometimes I do the rituals. When I want to write Botan -peony-, I look at my room's wall where Hijikata Toshizo's posters are like a wife missing her husband and remember how I fell in love with him. When I want to write Aki no Mikazuki (Autumn Crescent Moon), I re-read past reviews and feel the thrill of fooling the readers (also making them angry). How do you feel after reading my not so special writing setup? Do you feel weird or not? Are you a writer and we have similarities? Comment below!
